Flughafen, by Ho-Yeol Ryu
Alot has happened in the 150 years since Marey's images were made. We know how to think about and represent the movement of individual objects and beings, and we're moving towards thinking about representing entire systems. This is a photo called "Flughafen," by Ho-Yeol Ryu. It's sort of an annalemma for airports; it shows the parameters of planes taking off from a single runway.
I think that we have the space now, as a culture, to move from the movement of an individual organism to the flow of society as a whole. And I think it's within that sensibility that this kind of image really resonates, as well as Koyaanisqatsi and some other things.
